Safety Policies

These policies exist to ensure the safety and well being of all the children and young people in our care. The policies are also designed to protect leaders of activities and programmes involving children and young people from allegations that can arise from careless and unwise behaviour.

These policies look at the recruitment and appointment process, protective boundaries, leaders responsiblilities and includes a sign declaration for all Clergy and Lay Leaders, Educators and Pastoral Carers, both paid and voluntary.

Hi there, I have had a quick scan through this document but can’t see any information on ratios of young people to leaders.  We are a small youth group and the leaders are a mainly parents.  It is therefore tricky to know what ratio and type of supervision is required.  We are trying to get the young people to be more active in taking the leadership responsibilities and if there are too many of us adults/parents there it seems to stiffle their engagement.  The youth members are aged 14 – 15 years.
    Any ideas, advise welcomed

    Thanks for your question Leanne,

    What I recommend is
    a) minimum of two adult leaders no matter what.
    b) ratio of 10:1

So you can get by with 2 adult leaders for up to 20 young people. This is a
minimum  number and having more is not a problem. But yes encouraging youth to step into leadership roles is very positive for their development, for their faith and also acts as a great positive role model for younger teens.
