Jesus sent out a real simple challenge when he first met his disciples: Come, follow me. And we know they chose to go, they decided to follow him. God used these simple folk to change the course of history. We believe God is asking the same question to our young adults. At a national level we have four opportunities for young adults that are “going”:

going further - in discipleship

  • Going Further – It’s about growing, it’s about discipleship. Each summer, in conjunction with KCML and  studentsoul Auckland, we head to Great Barrier Island for a week of exploring living the Jesus way. Rachel from Invercargill said this about her experience in 2010: There were too many God moments to express in mere words. There were too many meaningful conversations to retell. There were too many expertly crafted photographic moments to recreate with mega pixels. There were too many exquisitely choreographed moments of nature to recount. The colours too vivid, the relationships too rich, the teaching too nourishing, are you getting the picture? Words just aren’t enough to express what the Going Further experience was like.

going somewhere - in leadership

  • Going Somewhere – It’s all about leadership development. One of the most common needs that youth leaders and ministers have is that they need more leaders.  Going Somewhere is a response to that call, but rather than being just about training leaders, it is also predominantly about growing people.  It is not just for young people currently in leadership roles, but also for those interested in learning more for the future. It is a chance for our young people to take the time to discover more about who they are. Going Somewhere is run locally either as an evening class or in a weekend retreat format.

going deeper - in youth ministry

  • Going Deeper – It’s about Youth Ministry Leadership, following a calling into Youth Ministry. For our young leaders that are feeling Gods call into Youth Ministry leadership, it is a chance to immerse them in what youth ministry is, to spend a weekend diving deeper into the fundamentals of youth ministry, from thinking about safety, to preparing a Bible Study, to considering models of youth ministry.

going global - in mission

  • Going Global – It’s about Mission, a chance to join in a cross-cultural experience- participating in God’s mission. Participants in Going Global will experience what it is to be part of God’s global village by serving as a team with a partner-in-mission of the Presbyterian Church.
